8th Grade Algebra

7th Graders Invited to Take 8th Grade Algebra

Math invitation

At the end of 7th grade, some students take 8th grade math and other students take the Algebra 1 class. In a regular school year, Clover Park School District 7th graders have the opportunity to move into 8th grade Algebra by receiving a high score on their 7th grade spring MAP test.

Seventh graders learn 8th grade skills in the spring that help prepare them to earn a high MAP score. Due to the statewide COVID-19 school closure this school year, students did not have their usual opportunity to learn some 8th grade math skills in school or demonstrate these skills on the spring MAP test.

This year, 7th graders are invited to demonstrate their readiness for 8th grade Algebra 1 through use of Khan Academy.

These are the steps for students who are interested in being in 8th Grade Algebra 1:

Step 1 – Tell your 7th grade math teacher that you are interested.
Step 2 – Start completing the Khan Academy Pre-Algebra course through your Khan Academy account on Clever. This can be done on computers, laptops, tablets and most phones.
Step 3 – Let your teacher know when you have completed 90% of the Mastery Points AND an 83% or higher on the Course Challenge.

This is a great opportunity to learn more math now and start completing your high school math classes during 8th grade!
